What are the Masseters?
The masseters are a pair of powerful muscles located at the sides of the jaw, responsible for chewing and biting. When these muscles are overactive or enlarged, they can alter the shape of the lower face creating a wider, more squared appearance. Overactivity of the masseters is also commonly associated with jaw clenching and teeth grinding, which can cause tension, headaches, and wear on the teeth over time.
Understanding your concerns.
Overactivity of the masseter muscles can give the appearance of a jaw that is wide or squared for the face. This is a common concern and is often accompanied by symptoms of jaw clenching or teeth grinding. At Ella Burgess Aesthetics, the masseters are assessed individually and thoroughly before any treatment is discussed.
Concerns frequently raised during consultation include:
- A jaw that appears wide or squared
- Jaw clenching or bruxism (teeth grinding)
- Tension or discomfort in the masseter muscles
- Overall facial balance and proportion

Why can't specific treatment names be mentioned?
Australian law prohibits the advertising or naming of certain injectable medicines in public-facing materials. This consultation is about understanding your concerns and exploring your options — not promoting specific products.
Will I still be able to chew normally after treatment?
It is normal to notice a temporary change in chewing ability in the initial period following treatment particularly with harder foods. This is temporary and will resolve. All of this is discussed in detail during your consultation.
Do you show before and after photos?
No. AHPRA and TGA regulations prohibit the use of before and after images in marketing or during consultations. Ella may describe likely changes in general terms during your consultation.
Is this treatment suitable for teeth grinding and jaw tension?
Concerns related to jaw clenching, teeth grinding, and associated tension are frequently discussed during facial slimming consultations at Ella Burgess Aesthetics. All suitability is assessed individually during your consultation.
